The Manawatu Age Group Champs (MAGS) is run by Swimming Manawatu, but it doubles as our club’s annual championship event. A number of cups and awards at our club prize-giving will be based on swimmers results at MAGS. So it was good to see some strong performances from those attending in 2021.

On the first day of competition the weather was cold and overcast, but it was good to see a number of our swimmers wearing beanies, socks, coats and jackets to keep warm. The second day was definitely warmer.

We had 22 swimmers competing, with a total of 165 event entries. From these entries our swimmers achieved 163 top 10 placings.

The medal tally for our team was 102 medals:

• 48 x Gold
• 32 x Silver
• 22 x Bronze

Special thanks to those who helped ensure the smooth operation of the meet in official and helping roles. We also thank those parents who supported the swim team as Pool Side Team Managers.

Most of the team on Saturday morning
